A Life on the Go

A way for family and friends to keep up with my life and for me to get my voice out there in a small way.

Event, Apartment, Work

Whoa, it's been a while since i have updated this.  Sorry y'all, if there is a y'all.  :)

The LGBT Centre held their first event on Sunday of last week.  The event went very well even if it was a little smaller than everyone thought it would be.  We met all kinds of people there.  One of our local politicians showed up for a bit...She was out burning the campaign trail, so we were very pleased she took time to see our event.  We had a few business owners show up too.  People came from all over London and from many major organizations here in town.  I had a hard time socializing with everyone and there were moments where I just wanted to run and hide, but I was told I did very well at the event, so I was happy.  There was good food, nice people and of course, my partner was there too.  What more does an event need to succeed?

Between the centre and doing some filing for a local business woman, my partner and I have been very very busy.  We hit the road every day almost before we wake up and usually don't make it home until well after nine, and we have work waiting for us there too.  We are trying to slow down a little and make time for us, but it is hard trying to be everywhere we need to be and do that too.

Still, we have been able to get alot of other stuff done.  We sold some furniture so we won't have to move it, went to the doctor for my partner's driving physical, started to file my taxes, started to pack up for a move and even found time for a nice dinner for my partner and I.  :)  I will let you guess what I enjoyed to most, lol.

Anyways, I gotta go, but we sign the papers for the apartment tomorrow!  In theory anyways....wish us luck!

Apartment hunting we go!

There has been a slight snag in the apartment situation.  The building my partner and I are looking at using for our all-in-one apartment and business was supposed to be zoned residential and commercial.  The owner of the building found out this week that it wasn't zoned residential anymore and was zoned business instead.  Basically this means she needs to get the city to rezone the building as mixed residential and commercial.  Upshot of all this...Our apartment will NOT be ready by November 1st.

The good news in all of this is that the owner desperately wants us as tenants, so she is on the hunt for temporary digs for us, meaning we can still move at the end of October.  She owns and manages alot of buildings, so she should be able to find something for us.

So we are currently looking at apartments, and trying to explain our needs, wants and hopes.  Wish us luck as apartment hunting we go!

Fair

Friday was such a blast, I had to write about it here.  The local equivalent of the county fair has started here, but at ten dollars to get in per person, my partner and I thought we couldn't go.  We were both okay with not going, but we were talking with a friend and she said she could get the two of us in with her for free.

We went after dinner, and headed to the animal barns first thing.  We were able to sit and watch chickens hatch, and pet all kinds of baby and adult animals, including one of the chickens pictured below.  The chicken was very sweet natured and so soft.  I have never seen one like this before.  My partner was very happy to be able to pet a baby pig for the first time in her life, too.

Then we went to the one of the buildings and talked to all kinds of people and vendors.  I know my partner got a lot of ideas for the business, and we took a few brochures.  I entered a drawing for some really neat prizes and got sent home with some fat pens and rulers.  There are some sausages we hope to buy next year, and a lot we want to do next time we go, too.  All in all, it was a very fun outing.

Here's hoping we can go back next year!

Apartment, Possible Work

We recently met with a local business woman about starting up a business in her building.  The building is one of those zoned commercial and residential, and the apartment in the back is unfinished.  In the meeting we had, she dropped the rent on the property significantly and agreed to become our first client.  She also asked my partner and I if we would consider coming in to help her sort out paperwork and do other little odd jobs.  I was already working on the begginning of the sorting, and truthfully, am glad to have help with it.

If this goes well, and if my partner gets the volunteer coordinator position as a paying job, we will be able to support ourselves within a very short period of time.  She and I are both hoping this goes through and will be very impatiently waiting news on both those fronts.

Also, time will become at a premium for us.  With the centre opening at the end of the month, a big event is planned, and we will be spending just about all our time away from home between the centre, and everything else.  Not to worry as this will be kept up to date.  But if any of you fail to hear from us for a while that is why.

Meeting Report, Centre

We just checked our emails, and found the report from a meeting we attended a few weeks ago.  This meeting was one of 8 town hall meetings on the subject of poverty and what can be done to alleviate it.

I am not sure what I expected to come of this meeting, but I was very startled to receive a copy of the official report so soon.  I was even more surprised to find that my partner and I were often quoted in the report word for word.  *grins*  When I think about that, and I know that the things mentioned in this report will appear on the schedule of things to be dealt with by our representatives at Parliament...It truthfully makes chills run up and down my spine.  I truthfully did not expect our words to be carried out of the meeting, but found they were and will be read by important people in government.  Even my partner was startled at us being quoted in the report and pleased to find we might have made a difference by attending that meeting.  That alone made it a great evening for us, but there was other good news today as well.

The LGBT Centre will happen, and it will fill a big need in the city of London.  To be in on the founding of it humbles me, and I can literally feel that I helping build something that will outlive me.  Today a big, huge step was made towards the doors opening, and from there other things will start to fall into place for the founders.  Today the non-profit license number arrived from the government, and today the founders of the Centre were able to get full sponsorship from a major bank, and get insurance and benefits package for the employees of the Centre as well.

It is so wonderful to be doing the work of helping this place to open.  There is so much that the Centre will do.  We will be a haven to the LGBT of the city.  We will be starting too many programs of all kinds to count, and we will be doing it to help people like my partner and I.

I absolutely cannot believe that I have been given the opportunity to help the founders get this place open.  It is amazing how fast this is happening.  Ten days ago, my partner and I had never even heard of this place, and now we are throwing all we are into helping it open.  Sometimes I think that is truly the way the universe is.  One moment life is as it is, and the next your universe is upside down.  Everything can change in an eye blink.  Neither one of us have the paperwork needed to prove we know enough about what we are doing to do the jobs we are given, yet we have been given our jobs and we know we will do them well.  Neither of us thought our hidden skills would ever be brought to light and yet those skills we thought were unusable because they didn't show on paper are the skills that are allowing us to help the founders of the Centre get the place up and running.

Well, I have to go.  Sleep calls me, and tomorrow will be an early day.  Later, all!

Up and Running

Just dashing off a quick first entry.  Not sure how to begin, but all of you reading this know me, so I will jump right in.

There has been alot going on of late.  My partner and I are working to help build a community centre, hopefully to open before September ends.  It will be an LGBT centre for our city.  We are also working on starting up our own business and hoping to move in the near future.

Suffice to say we are very busy, but I intend on making the time to keep this up and running.  I plan on using this space as a place for me to express my thoughts and feelings and to keep family and friends up to date on my life.  As of now my goal is to update at least once a week.  Well, I'll be back as for now life calls...More later!
