OUTCOME - Thomas Auto Guelph (Ripoff Artists!)

The next day after they received the registered letter, John Savu, the financial advisor for Thomas Auto (the guy who deals with the lender Nelson Financial) calls me up and leaves a message that he doesn't see a big problem here, that there are some misunderstandings, and that they want to take care of everything.

I call him back and question him (I was skeptical at first).

He verifies that "he went to bat" for me, and that he wants to fix these "problems" which are simply "misunderstandings".   He asks if I had gone ahead with the complaints that I threatenned them with in the registered letter.  I tell him "not yet".  He tells me that it's not neccessary for me to do so, and that he will take care of everything, and I agree.

He goes on to tell me that he will redo the entire "Lease" contract for me, and that I can keep the car at a final list price of $7900 (down from the rediculous $11,500).  He also tells me my monthly payments will only be a total of $290 per month (down from the whopping $440).  He says that in the event that I pay the car off early, I will save on the interest rate, which has also been substiantially reduced.  Also, he says that at the end of the 4 year term, my buy-back will be $1 (I pay $1 and I own the car).

Wow.  It worked!

I guess they'd rather make one customer happy than have to deal with getting a bad reputation, or deal with legal issues, or have their license revoked -- all highly likely outcomes if I went ahead with the complaints that I threatenned them with (see previous post).

This was good news but I had some requests, I wanted to be paid for the problems with the car.  Long story short, he agreed (eventually) to pay me for the problems listed in the letter, as quoted by a third party (Canadian Tire) for an amount of $480 via cheque.  I made sure to get all agreements in writing.  

Now all I had to do, was wait to be issued the cheque...  Now that, my friends, is another story....
