CONCLUSION: Thomas Auto Guelph (Ripoff Artists!)

Here's the conclusion:

If you have bad credit and need to buy a car, don't deal with these people because their first priority is to TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE WITH POOR CREDIT.

First they give you a "you're approved" speech and take a deposit from you with some verbal promise of what you'll be paying.

Then they ask you for MORE money (usually $200 more) for the down payment than you first agreed to.

Then they tell you your payments will cost some rediculous amount per month (far over and above what was verbally promised to you).

The list price of the vehicle will be artificially boosted (by several thousand dollars).

Then if you do go through with it, when you go to pick up your car, they will ask you for $100 for license plate fees (neglected to mention it before).

Their goal here is this -- to make the monthly payments so outrageous, that you can't afford it.  When you miss one payment, like vultures they will enter your property at night (or when you're not looking) and REPO your car, at which point the contract is broken and you no longer own the car, but in fact you now owe them additional reposession fees, which will be tacked onto your total and added to your already bad credit rating!

My advice: Don't deal with these people.  Avoid them at all costs.

If you do go to them out of desperation because you need a car,  EXPECT to be ripped off, EXPECT them to NOT BE UPFRONT about all the fees involved.  MAKE NOTES OF EACH AND EVERY INTERACTION YOU HAVE WITH THEM.  Take a mini voice recorder with you each time you visit them and record the conversations you have (it's may not be admissible in court, but it can come in handy when dealing with police or if you're ever in a mediation hearing against them).  ASK and VERIFY what the LIST PRICE of the car is.  Don't leave them a deposit (they will only ask for more later), TAKE your deposit in when you are ready to sign the contract and purchase the vehicle.  Deal with John Savu ONLY.  NEVER deal with Scott Liff.  He's the worst asshole in the joint.
