Splogs... may have inadvertently helped boost PR

Splogs, or spam blogs, or spammy comments left on blog entries: are bad, very baaad. We all hate 'em.  However, after some consideration I tend to think they may have had an effect on this blog's google page rank -- in a positive way, that is.

I know google frowns upon splogs and penalizes them, but as for the spammy comments that were left on some of these entries, I think they may have had some kind of effect on boosting the google page rank. 

The reasoning is:

• there were really no quality linkbacks to this blog, in fact no links at all
• there were 86 or so spam comments on the blog entries
• the page rank of this blog hit 5

It's just speculation.  But what the heck.  I have since disabled comments on this blog until I find the time to delete them.
